What's Your Why?

“What’s Your Why?” After getting my first corporate job, this was a phrase I heard every morning. Before starting our tasks, we were encouraged to share every morning what our “why” was. Why did we come into work this morning? What was driving us this particular week to get to the check? What was our motivation? At first, I thought it was obvious: my why is this car note, this insurance, and just to get to this money. I thought it’d always be this simple and straight forward, but when you hear the same phrase five times a week, that changes.
When you choose to wake up without acknowledging a true meaning or purpose, you find yourself simply going through the motions. That’s how a lot of people stay in certain jobs way past when they would’ve imagined. That’s why some of us may walk aimlessly though life and may not be encouraged to seek more out of life. Each and every one of us were created for a sole purpose on this earth. When you lose sight of what that is or never knew what it was to begin with, you take away from that “why”. You scrape away from the path where your purpose would normally flourish. When I look back through the past few years, I notice that my why has been motivated and inspired by so many things and people. My friends, my family, and my life experiences have shown me that I am here to reach, relate, inspire and so much more.
Because we don’t know what life holds, and we don’t know what tomorrow may bring, its so important to know what your “why” is and understand what it is going to take to execute it. Your life is precious and so is that “why.”
So ladies (and gents) when you look at the (wo)man in the mirror, what do you see? What is your why? Most importantly, what part of your life are you willing to change in order to make sure that you are making it closer to your “why?” As you walk into a new week, take some time for yourself and figure out these things. Your life is worth too much to not seek out your purpose and make those necessary changes.
