Set Apart

Back in grade school, when it was time to leave the classroom, the teacher always had the kids line up in a single file line. I’m sure you remember that. In this line of kids, there was the line leader and the caboose. Being the line leader was every kid’s dream. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, but I know I was excited to be a line leader. Being able to walk out FIRST and be SEEN by all the other kids gave that feeling of being the “cool kid.” Now let’s get into the job of caboose. This job wasn't as glamorous because you're the last one in line. As a caboose, you may have the simple job of turning off the lights and making sure everyone is in line (very essential). To a kid, the job of a caboose is equivalent to grunt work. Kids want jobs that are fun and cool. Little do they know, that "not so fun" job is momumental. This concept carries into our adult lives.

When God calls you out of a place of "fun" and comfort, it's not the most desirable option you'd want to take. Like a line leader, we want cool, fun, and care free. God doesn't always call you in that way, if ever. Instead, He calls you out to place that may seem "unfun". Walking down the path you've been called to will require so much of you. The things you used to do, you won't be able to do anymore. The places you go to, will become the places you used to go to. Trust me, it isn't easy stepping into a new season in your life and letting go of everything you once knew, but it's worth it. Your circle of friends might even change.

What's important to know is you are set apart. You're not set apart because your better than anyone else, but simply because this new phase of your life requires you to separate yourself from the old things that once held you back. Those particular things could be your friends, job, or an overall lifestyle. Keep in mind that you can't expect God to work in your life if you refuse to let go of the things that stunt your growth. It just doesn't make sense. So let this be a reminder that you being set apart to access the next part of your life may not be as glamourous as that line leader position in the second grade, but it will be as essential as the caboose.
