It's finally December so you know what that means: Christmas presents, classic Christmas movies and thinking about what you want to accomplish for the upcoming year. Now, before you get excited and start clipping cute magazine photos and whip out that vision board, let's pause for a second. What have you learned from this year and what have you actually applied?
We like to fall in love with putting our visions together using pictures, but the vision tends to start and stop there. Okay, let me use an example: one of the most popular resolutions is to lose weight and become healthier. You purchase your gym membership, buy new fresh groceries, and even get some new gym clothes. Fast forward about two to three months, you stopped going to the gym and all those fresh groceries have gone bad. You need to learn to fall in love with the process just as much as you fell in love with putting that cute visionboard together. Is there really a purpose to setting goals and making resolutions at the beginning of the year if you fail to apply yourself throughout the year to get these things accomplished?
There is a famous saying that says "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". So in translation, you are on the brink of insanity because you keep on stacking this vision boards up every year, doing research, but coming to the same conclusion: haven't executed anything. As I am screaming this from the roof tops, I'm saying this to myself as well. Just as diligent as you were to pick out the pictures, words, and catchphrases that described what you wanted for the new year, be just as diligent to find a realistic method that will allow you to accomplish your goals. Be inspired by others around you but don't think you have to do exactly what they do get to where you need and want to be.
At the end of the day, you are capable of doing many things. The Process you choose and the discipline you instill will determine how far you will get in your life let alone the new year. I know you love the aesthetic of that vision board and love to day dream about the resolutions you've listed out, but i'm sure you already know what to do. So just do it.
You know better.... So do better.
