Confidence can be defined as the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
Society tends to show us how to be confident in ourselves. Society lets us know that we have the ability to conquer anything that is thrown at us. We can accomplish so many things regardless of the circumstance. So what happens when you can’t ? What happens when the unexpected takes place and you have exhausted all options of resolution? As a human, our level of confidence can be contingent on our current circumstances. And as we all know, our circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. As much as we may want to say that we are ready for whatever life throws at a us, life is so unpredictable that you can't always imagine what you could or could not handle. This is where God comes in!
We have different names and descriptions for God... Alpha, Omega, Miracle Worker, Way Maker. The list can literally go on and on. Now think of the different names that come to mind when you mention God. Do you actually believe that he is all of those things? I ask this because your confidence should lie in God too. When you don't have confidence (aka Godfidence), these names that you give him are simply decorative and not as meaningful as they should be. Is God really a miracle worker and a way maker to you or do you say these things simply out of routine? It's one thing to say who God is, but it's another thing to have confidence in who he is. So what does Godfidence look like in your every day life? Let me give you some examples.
Godfidence is understanding that even if your current circumstance is not good, God is going to be working things out for your good. Godfidence is switching careers and going against the norm because God has showed you the path that you need to take in order to walk in your purpose. Godfidence is shifting different relationships and friendships in your life because they don't serve the life you're trying to live. Godfidence is trusting that God will bring you out of depression and mental aguish into a community who truly cares about you. There are so many different ways your confidence in God will present itself. It's important to have confidence in yourself, but it's also important to know that God is where that confidence comes from and God is who handles all of the things a mere human can't. I am confident in myself because God created me with the capablilities, talents, and gifts to fulfill my purpose. I am confident in God because I trust that he will continue to carry me through doors that I could never imagine myself going through alone. See? Confidence in yourself and in God are both two important points for life. So as I end the post of this week, let these bible verses sit on your heart:
Proverbs 17:7-8 (NIV)
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
