"So if you lose your way, get back to the basics."
-Jonathan McReynolds
I've spent all of my life in church. No seriously, everyday I was participating in something church related. Don't believe me? Let me give you a quick rundown:
Sunday Morning: Church Service
Sunday Night: Church Service #2
Monday: Family prayer night Service
Tuesday: Prayer Meeting
Wednesday: Awana
Thursday: Bible Study
Friday: Youth Night
Saturday: Help with church clean up
* And we're back at it again on Sunday Morning !
Now, don't get me wrong I didn't follow this schedule all the time, but majority of my life pretty much looked like this. Growing up in church was a reflex; a habit that I just knew was important. I never realized that I would end up just going through the motions and eventually get lost. Being young, I knew I loved God and that He was important to me. But as I got older, I struggled to apply what I knew to my life. Sometimes when things become a reflex, we can lose sight of why we do them in first place. Am I coming to church because this is how I was raised or because I actually want to be here?
Once I graduated college, I was trying to figure out my life. Outside of Job Hunting, I wanted to know how I was going to involve myself in church now that I was back in town. I now had the choice to attend whatever church I wanted. Whether it was the church I grew up in, a new church, or Bedside Baptist (aka home.lol), I was going somewhere. While I was on this Journey, I was learning that I needed to redefine the importance of church for myself. I needed to understand what I was struggling with and how I wanted to grow from it. Being told that church was good for me and God was good wasn't going to cut it anymore. I wanted and needed more, but where do I start? The beginning... Start at the beginning.
Don't let your uncertainty keep you from finding your way back to the root. Yes, you got lost, but acknowledgement is your first step to getting to know God for who he really is and not just who you think He might be. It's time to get back to the basics...
